Title- A laboratory setup for practices in active power filtering
Abstract- Non-linear electrical loads connected to power systems introduce non-active power components. The current harmonics and reactive power deteriorate the power quality and reduce the electrical system efficiency. These non-desirable effects can be avoided by using shunt active power filtering. This is a relevant topic in electrical and power electronics systems and, as a consequence, it must be included in undergraduate engineering courses. The aim of this paper is to present a laboratory set-up of a three-phase three-wire shunt active power filter (SAPF) which allows undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students to evaluate experimentally the performance of different control algorithms in SAPFs. As an example a complete didactic application is described using the developed laboratory set-up.
