Title- Design of an adaptive distant-learning system based on video.
Abstract- The inclusion of multimedia contents in educational services has helped to increase the quality of learning processes. This paper presents an innovative educational system where these contents are used in novel ways and not only as mere complements of traditional materials. The idea is to create an online adaptive tutor which uses video as the main element and is able to generate courses adapted to the particular needs of each student by using the experience of the teachers, student feedback and behaviour. Distance learning is improved by extending the presence of the teacher and creating complementary methods of evaluation.

Title- System for the study and knowledge evaluation of application layer protocols.
Abstract- One of the main subjects in computer science and telecommunication degrees is the study of application protocols. The increase in the number and use of Internet services has raised their importance, since new applications which implement them are developed everyday. However, their study is not easy since they are hidden behind the services. In this paper we present a tool to visualize protocol behaviours at the same time the student is using the associate services. The result is an ideal environment to learn the message format and interchange order. Moreover, the tool has a module to evaluate the student progress.

Title- Iberoamerican Congress in Telematics (CITA 2009)
Abstract- This editorial is an introduction of the special issue composed with the best papers in e-learning of CITA2009 (Congreso Iberoamericano de Telemática). This congress was organized in Gijón/Xixón, Asturies, España, in May of 2009. The two selected papers are related with different matters of elearning, such as learning objects and system architecture. In this editorial we introduce CITA 2009 and afterwards we summarize the papers included in this special issue.

Title- Educational tool for the design and configuration of communication networks.
Abstract- In this paper, we describe a simple tool for the design of communication networks. On the one hand, it provides an interface for students, where they can add, remove or configure components. Been a web application, pupils can work everywhere, which promotes an informal learning environment. On the other hand, professors can visualize student’s projects and gather reports about their activity. In conclusion, it is a tool that provides a soft transition to more professional tools.

Title- Three techniques for competitive lab activities based on project-oriented learning in ICT
Abstract- Laboratory work is one of the most important activities in technical degrees. In these classes, students learn while carry in gout tasks similar to those they could encounter in a professional environment. These activities help to streng then the theoretical principles while allowing the students to develop useful skills for their careers. In this paper, we present three experiences (LabBattle, LabRace, and Lab Triathlon) in the organization of practical activities based on the paradigms of competitiveness and project-orientedlearning (POL). The goal of these techniques is to immerse the students in anenvironment as real as possible. In suchscenarios, it is often important to be first, to think like the ́badguy` or to keep confidentiality. After three years applying these techniques we have observed a great motivation and excellent competences in the students. Moreover, cheating has been less frequent than in other types of lab assignments.

Title- Tutoring System for Efficient Driving of Combustion Vehicles
Abstract- One of the sectors that currently generate pollution is road transport. Millions of tons of CO2 are dumped every day into the atmosphere due to this type of human activity. Governments have seen the reduction of such emissions as a priority - which according to various studies could be achieved through more efficient driving. This article presents a driver tutoring system based on active learning and ubiquity paradigms. Through visual and auditory recommendations we are able to get the driver to make their driving more efficient. The system is complemented with a Web portal where the driver can check their driving and receive recommendations for further improvement. To evaluate the performanceof the tutoring system, driving has been monitored and analyzed for 6 weeks with 150 volunteer drivers achieving results that improve the efficient driving metrics and consumption by approximately 10%.
